The horrific damage done to the Gulf of Mexico ... its wildlife,
sea creatures ... and its people, continues to unfold.
More and more families are being thrust into financial despair
- and as a result, caring for their pets is no longer affordable.
As reported by CNN in July, 2010 ... many pets are being
surrendered to animal shelters; others are abandoned ...
all across the Gulf.
The SPCA in Louisiana, New Orleans can only offer the animals
a brief reprieve
It is not a no-kill shelter. It is likely that many animals
not adopted will, within weeks, be euthanized.
This shelter does its best to cope ... the lucky animals have
been adopted by new families. Some are transported to shelters
in other states; others are in foster care. The remaining dogs
and cats and other pets wait.
These homeless animals are more blameless victims of BP's
shocking lack of precaution ... and careless disregard for
the many lives a clean environment supports.
According to the CNN report,
BP (shamefully) failed to offer any financial support
... to the overwhelmed Louisiana SPCA.
Giving up a pet is heart wrenching ... being a
homeless pet has to be worse.
More loss. More grief. Compliments of BP.
Maybe BP was fooling when they said they were going to "make
this right."
